Scrap / get weather data forecast from www.meteoprog.gr . Part of a desktop information system.

My desktop informational display.

It displays multiple stream of information like:
weather, my training stats, boinc stats, backup status, computer temperatures, performance graphs of other computers, CO2 measurements, processes of my compute and other stuff.

It is made with a combination of scripts. Multiple bash scripts that create the appropriate data, a bash script that combines images and graphs and produce the desktop background and a python script creating a gtk window with most of the text.

It's a little messy but i have it working over two years now...
I had tried with conky but it gets too heavy after a while so i end up on a more custom solution.

Laptop LCD to external monitor and raspberry pi integration.

Ok, laptop died, not worth to fix it again.
 So... scrap for parts...

 

Got an LCD screen and a webcam.

Order matching LCD driver from ebay........wait........got it.

Some plexiglass from local store.

Nuts and screws.

Drill, screw and tape. And voila....

 

An LCD monitor. But that's not all....

A Raspberry Pi (Bv1) is attached at the back so this is a full linux system....

(I misplayed the HDMI cable. When I find it I will post raspberry working...)

 Thats it. Now I have both an extra monitor and a self contained computer.

And some bonus...

The webcam of ASUS F5R has a usb interface. Connect a usb cable on the leads and just get it working!
